Umayyad Dynasty of Córdoba
“By the grace of God, Caliph of the Faithful”
Origin: Córdoba
Abd al-Rahman I, the last surviving Umayyad prince, fled Damascus after the Abbasid revolution and established an independent emirate in Córdoba in 756. His descendants transformed al-Andalus into one of the most advanced civilizations in medieval Europe. Abd al-Rahman III proclaimed himself Caliph in 929, inaugurating the Caliphate of Córdoba, which reached its zenith under al-Hakam II and the de facto ruler al-Mansur.
