House of Sarria
“Peregrinorum Custos”
Origin: Lords of Sarria, guardians of the final Camino stretch
The lords of Sarria controlled the starting point of the final 100 kilometers of the Camino de Santiago—the minimum distance required to earn the Compostela certificate.\n\nThey maintained hospices, bridges, and roads for the tens of thousands of pilgrims who passed through their territory annually. Their economy revolved around pilgrimage services.\n\nThe family also guarded the ancient walls of Lugo—the only Roman walls in the world to remain complete around their entire perimeter.
