Origin: Minor branch of the great Lara dynasty in Burgos

A cadet branch of the mighty House of Lara settled around Burgos, controlling lands along the Arlanza river. They maintained the traditions of Castilian frontier nobility.\n\nClosely tied to the great monasteries of Santo Domingo de Silos and San Pedro de Arlanza, they served as secular patrons and protectors of these cultural centers.\n\nThe family produced several notable warriors who fought alongside the kings of Castile in the Reconquista campaigns toward Andalucía.
