Origin: Lords of Vizcaya, iron masters of the Basque Country

The Haro lords of Vizcaya controlled the rich iron deposits of the Basque mountains. Their mining operations supplied weapons and tools across northern Iberia.\n\nAs Lords of Vizcaya, they maintained the unique Basque fueros liberties , swearing oaths under the Oak of Guernica. They were the most powerful Basque dynasty.\n\nThe line ended when María Díaz de Haro married into the royal family, bringing Vizcaya under the Castilian crown while preserving its special privileges.
