Their castle perches atop a natural rock column.\n\nAs hereditary Constables of Castile from the Velasco line , they wielded enormous power second only to the king. The title of Duke of Frías was one of the most prestigious in Spain.\n\nThe famous "hanging houses" of Frías, built over the cliff edge, predate those of Cuenca and create an unforgettable medieval skyline.
