House of Cuenca
“Inter Caelum et Terram”
Origin: Lords of Cuenca, masters of the hanging houses
The lords of Cuenca governed one of Spain's most dramatically situated cities, perched on cliffs above the Júcar and Huécar gorges. They built the famous Casas Colgadas Hanging Houses .\n\nTheir wealth came from the textile industry, particularly fine wool production that rivaled Segovia's. Cuenca's dyers were famous throughout Iberia.\n\nThe family patronized the Gothic cathedral, one of the first in Spain to incorporate Norman architectural influences brought by Eleanor of England.
