House of Consuegra
“Ventis Molentes”
Origin: Lords of Consuegra, masters of the windmill ridge
The lords of Consuegra administered the Hospitaller castle and the famous windmill ridge that Don Quixote would later "attack" in Cervantes' novel.\n\nTheir twelve windmills atop the Calderico hill, alongside the castle, created the most iconic silhouette in all La Mancha. They ground grain for the entire region.\n\nThe family managed the important saffron trade and maintained the Roman road that connected Toledo to Andalucía through their territory.
