House of Ávila de los Caballeros
“Murus Fidei”
Origin: Knights of Ávila, defenders of the walled city
The knightly families of Ávila were collectively known as the Caballeros Knights of Ávila, and they jointly governed the city behind its famous walls.\n\nThey maintained the most complete medieval walls in Europe—2,500 meters of granite fortifications with 88 towers. The city produced St. Teresa of Ávila, whose family were conversos.\n\nThe Caballeros defended the city during multiple sieges and participated in every major Reconquista campaign, earning Ávila the title "City of Knights and Saints."
