Garachico
Once the most important port in Tenerife until a volcanic eruption in 1706 buried the harbor under lava. Today the lava flows have created natural seawater pools, and the town's 16th-century architecture survives as a ghost of former grandeur.
Located on Tenerife's less-visited northwestern coast, Garachico is far from the tourist zones of the south and receives a fraction of the island's visitors.
