The Zirids were a Sanhaja Berber dynasty that established the Taifa of Granada after the fall of the Caliphate. Under their rule, Granada first emerged as a major political center in al-Andalus. Zawi ibn Ziri founded the kingdom, and his descendants made it one of the more stable taifa states.
