Besalú

A medieval town centered on one of the most photogenic Romanesque bridges in Europe — a seven-arch fortified bridge spanning the Fluvià river. Besalú preserves one of the only intact medieval Jewish ritual baths (mikvahs) in Spain.

Overshadowed by nearby Girona and the Costa Brava, Besalú's extraordinary medieval ensemble receives far fewer visitors than it deserves.
