Muhammad I ibn al-Ahmar founded the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada in 1232, the last Muslim state in Iberia. Through shrewd diplomacy, paying tribute to Castile while maintaining independence, the Nasrids survived for over 250 years. They built the Alhambra into one of the greatest architectural masterpieces of Islamic civilization.
