Marinid Dynasty
Origin: Morocco
The Marinid dynasty of Morocco succeeded the Almohads and launched the last major North African intervention in Iberia. Sultan Abu Yusuf Yaqub crossed the Strait of Gibraltar multiple times to aid the Nasrids of Granada, most notably at the Battle of Río Salado 1340 where a combined Marinid-Nasrid force was decisively defeated by Alfonso XI of Castile.
