The Counts of Toulouse were among the most powerful Occitan lords, ruling vast territories in southern France. Their involvement in Iberian affairs included participation in the Reconquista and complex alliances with the Crown of Aragon. Raymond IV of Toulouse was a leader of the First Crusade, and his descendants maintained close ties with Aragonese royalty.
