House of Soutomaior
“Gallecia Invicta”
Origin: Counts of Soutomaior, great lords of southern Galicia
The Soutomaior Sotomayor family were the dominant power in southern Galicia, ruling from a string of imposing castles along the Galician coast.\n\nPedro Madruga, Count of Soutomaior, was one of medieval Galicia's most colorful and ruthless lords. Some historians controversially identify him as Christopher Columbus.\n\nThe family survived the Irmandiño revolts and rebuilt their castles even more magnificently, asserting their power over the rebellious Galician peasantry.
