House of Ponte
“Insulae Dominus”
Origin: Lords of Tenerife, Genoese conquerors of the Canaries
The Ponte family, of Genoese origin, were among the first European settlers of Tenerife after the conquest from the Guanche. They received vast sugar cane plantations.\n\nThey built the magnificent Casa de los Balcones in La Orotava, one of the finest examples of Canarian colonial architecture with its iconic carved wooden balconies.\n\nThe family profited from the Canary Islands' position as a stopover for ships heading to the Americas, providing supplies and banking services.
