House of Niebla
“Lux ex Tenebris”
Origin: Counts of Niebla, lords of the marshlands
The Counts of Niebla controlled vast territories in the marshlands and pine forests of Huelva. Their domain included the approaches to Doñana and the mining regions of Riotinto.\n\nThey were early patrons of maritime exploration, supporting navigators who would later join Columbus's expeditions from nearby Palos de la Frontera.\n\nThe 2nd Count of Niebla died heroically attempting to cross the Strait of Gibraltar during a military campaign, drowning in full armor.
