The Kingdom of Navarre's royal dynasty began with Íñigo Arista in the 9th century, making it one of the oldest Christian kingdoms in Spain. Strategically positioned between France and Spain, Navarre was a cultural crossroads on the Camino de Santiago. After Spanish conquest of Upper Navarre in 1512, the dynasty continued ruling Lower Navarre until Henry IV of Navarre became King of France.
