The Fernández de Heredia family, lords of Mora de Rubielos, built the largest castle in Aragón—a massive fortress-palace that dominates the mountain town.\n\nThey administered the highland territories of Gúdar-Javalambre, controlling livestock routes cañadas vital to the transhumance economy.\n\nThe family produced several Grand Masters of the Order of St. John and were deeply connected to the military orders' presence in Teruel.
