Origin: The House of Montalvo traces its roots back to a minor noble family in the early 12th century, gaining prominence through strategic marriages and military service.

In the late 12th century, the Montalvos were granted lands around Santa Cruz Castle for their loyalty during the Reconquista. Their influence grew as they became key players in local politics, often serving as advisors to the monarchs of Castile. Throughout the 14th century, the family expanded its holdings through marriages with other noble houses, including a notable alliance with the House of Lemos.
