House of Manrique de Lara
“Vis et nobilitas”
Origin: Kingdom of Castile
The Manrique de Lara family was one of the most powerful clans in medieval Castile, producing warriors, statesmen, and one of Spain's greatest poets — Jorge Manrique. As Dukes of Nájera and Counts of Treviño, they dominated the Rioja region and played kingmaker in Castilian politics.
