After James I conquered Mallorca, noble families received estates across the island. The lords of Bellver built Europe's only circular Gothic castle overlooking Palma bay.\n\nThey profited from Mallorca's position as a Mediterranean trading hub, with connections to North Africa, Italy, and the Levant.\n\nThe family supported the famous Mallorcan cartographic school that produced the finest maps of the medieval world, including the Catalan Atlas.
