The lords of Lorca commanded one of the largest castles in Spain, overseeing a vast frontier territory between Christian Murcia and Nasrid Granada.\n\nTheir fortress, covering an entire hilltop, was the most important defensive position in southeastern Spain. The family maintained constant vigilance against Granadan raids.\n\nLorca's famous Holy Week processions, among Spain's most spectacular, owe their elaborate Biblical tableaux to the family's religious patronage.
