House of Ivrea
“Pro rege et patria”
Origin: Kingdom of Italy
The early kings of Aragón — Ramiro I and his descendants — are sometimes linked to the Italian House of Ivrea through contested genealogical claims. Ramiro I, son of Sancho III of Navarre, received Aragón as his inheritance in 1035 and founded it as an independent kingdom. His grandson Alfonso I "the Battler" conquered Zaragoza in 1118 and dramatically expanded the Reconquista frontier. The dynasty ended when Queen Petronilla married Ramon Berenguer IV of Barcelona in 1137, uniting the Crown of Aragón with the County of Barcelona.
