Origin: Kingdom of León

Founded by the legendary Alonso Pérez de Guzmán "El Bueno" who, during the siege of Tarifa in 1294, threw his own dagger to the Moors besieging the castle rather than surrender it in exchange for his captive son's life. This supreme sacrifice earned him the sobriquet "El Bueno" and vast rewards from the Crown, including the lordship of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
