The lords of Carrión are immortalized—infamously—in the Cantar de Mio Cid, where the Infantes de Carrión marry El Cid's daughters only to beat and abandon them.\n\nDespite this literary notoriety, the real lords of Carrión were important Camino de Santiago hosts. Their town boasted remarkable Romanesque architecture.\n\nThe family maintained the bridge and hospice at Carrión, one of the most important stops on the pilgrimage route.
