House of Calatayud
“Bilbilis Reborn”
Origin: Lords of Calatayud, heirs of ancient Bilbilis
The lords of Calatayud inherited the legacy of ancient Bilbilis, birthplace of the Roman poet Martial. Their city became the second-largest in Aragon.\n\nThe family was notable for their tolerance of the Jewish and Mudéjar communities, whose craftsmanship created the extraordinary Mudéjar architecture that defines Calatayud.\n\nThey administered extensive vineyards in the Jalón valley, and their wine trade brought prosperity to the region.
