House of Béjar
“Montana Fortis”
Origin: Dukes of Béjar, patrons of Cervantes
The Dukes of Béjar were the dedicatees of the first part of Don Quixote—Cervantes sought their patronage for his masterwork.\n\nTheir mountain town was famous for textile production, particularly fine cloth. The family maintained one of Spain's oldest bullrings and established unique local traditions.\n\nThe last Duke died without heirs in 1777, ending one of Extremadura's most illustrious noble lines. Their palace still dominates the town center.
