House of Barcelona
“Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos”
Origin: County of Barcelona
The House of Barcelona was one of the most powerful dynasties in medieval Iberia, ruling the County of Barcelona from the 9th century. Beginning with Wilfred the Hairy, the dynasty gained independence from Frankish overlordship. In 1137, Count Ramon Berenguer IV married Queen Petronilla of Aragón, inheriting the Crown of Aragón through this dynastic union. Under Barcelona rule, the Crown expanded into a Mediterranean empire encompassing Valencia, Mallorca, Sicily, Sardinia, Naples, and even the Duchy of Athens.
