House of Baeza
“Nido de Halcones”
Origin: Lords of Baeza, guardians of the olive frontier
After Fernando III conquered Baeza in 1227, the house of Baeza was established to guard this crucial frontier fortress overlooking the Guadalquivir valley.\n\nThe family controlled the expanding olive groves that would eventually make Jaén the world's largest olive oil producer. They built fortified farmsteads cortijos throughout the province.\n\nTheir wealth funded the Renaissance transformation of Baeza, creating the monumental ensemble that would earn UNESCO World Heritage status.
