House of Aquitaine
Origin: Aquitaine, France
The Duchy of Aquitaine was one of the most powerful Frankish territories, and its rulers frequently intervened in Iberian affairs. Duke William VIII of Aquitaine led the international crusading force that captured Barbastro in 1064, one of the first proto-crusade actions. Eleanor of Aquitaine's marriages connected the duchy to both France and England, with reverberations felt across Iberia.
