House of Andrade
“O Bo e o Xeneroso”
Origin: Counts of Andrade, great lords of medieval Galicia
The Andrade family were the most powerful nobles of medieval Galicia, controlling vast territories in A Coruña and Lugo. Fernán Pérez de Andrade "O Boo" the Good was their greatest lord.\n\nThey were famous for their wild boar hunts and their peculiar tomb sculptures featuring boars and bears. Their castles dotted the Galician landscape.\n\nThe family faced the Irmandiño revolts 1467-1469 , when peasants destroyed many of their castles, but they rebuilt and maintained their power until absorbed by greater houses.
