Almoravid Governors of Al-Andalus
“Unity through faith and discipline”
Origin: Córdoba
The Almoravids were a Berber dynasty from the Sahara who crossed into Iberia in 1086 at the invitation of the taifa kings to halt the Christian advance. After defeating Alfonso VI at the Battle of Sagrajas, they progressively absorbed the taifa kingdoms. Their governors ruled al-Andalus as a province of their North African empire.
