Almoravid Dynasty

Origin: Saharan Africa / Morocco

The Almoravid dynasty, Berber warriors from the Sahara, conquered Morocco and were invited into Al-Andalus by the taifa kings to halt the Christian advance after the fall of Toledo in 1085. Under Yusuf ibn Tashfin, they won the decisive Battle of Sagrajas 1086 and subsequently annexed most of the taifa kingdoms, reunifying Muslim Spain under their austere, religiously conservative rule.
